Microsoft is one of the most renowned companies in the world. The company manufactures different types of products like computers, software, and chips, etc. One of the most famous products is Microsoft Windows. Microsoft Windows has been a go-to operating system for years now, dating back as far as 1985. Since then, the company has launched various upgraded versions of the operating system. Windows 11 is the latest addition to the ever-growing collection of OS by the company.

But what is the release date of Windows 11, and what are the minimum requirements?

Windows 11 Release Date

Microsoft launched Windows 11 on October 5, 2021, as a free upgrade. Some people were also able to install the new OS a day early on October 4. The company will be rolling out the update to eligible devices over the coming months. However, users can also download Windows 11 from the Windows 11 download page.

Many PC and laptop makers have also confirmed that many of their new products will be pre-installed with Windows 11. This includes Microsoft's new Surface Go 3, Surface Pro 8, and Surface Laptop Studio devices. These products were launched to coincide with Windows 11's release date.

Windows 11 will be supported with yearly updates, similar to Apple's efforts with macOS.

Windows 11 System Requirements

Over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of discussion about what devices will be eligible with windows 11.

Microsoft published the Windows 11 requirements on their website. Some of the requirements are-

  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with at least two cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or SoC
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 64GB
  • System Firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot capable
  • TPM: Trusted Platform Module 2.0
  • Graphics Card: DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver
  • Display: 720p, 8-bit per color channel, at least 9-inch diagonal
  • Internet Connection and Microsoft Account: The system needs an active internet connection and Microsoft Account to complete the first few setup steps or when switching a device out of Windows 11 Home in S-mode.

Windows 11 User Interface

There are some notable changes to what Microsoft calls the Windows 11 user experience (UX), including more vibrant colors, new icons, and rounded corners, as well as a new system font. The taskbar contains one new button. It opens a Widgets list on the left side of the display. The selection of widgets is limited for now, mostly to Microsoft services.

The fine tune ability, the visibility of tray icons, and a crispier, cleaner Quick Settings app are a good addition.

One of the most significant changes can be seen on the Settings app. The file explorer has the same visual refresh as the rest of Windows, with shortcut menus and a simplified ribbon. The sections on the right slide open as needed to enable adjustments to personalization options and system settings, and the new navigation pane on the left provides ready access to the main categories. Another notable change is a detailed display that shows battery usage on the hour to hour basis. This way, users can pinpoint which application is consuming the most battery.

Despite having a lot of new changes, users will still encounter places where bits of older Windows elements can be seen.

How to Download Windows 11?

Before starting this process, make sure that the PC meets the Windows 11 minimum specifications. Back up the PC before continuing to save important files and settings. Once done with this, head to the Window 11 web page and follow these steps to download Windows 11:

Upgrade the current device

The easiest way to install and download Windows 11 is to upgrade the current device that the users own. From the Download Windows 11 webpage, click 'Download Now. Then, follow the instructions to download and install Windows 11 on your device.

How to Install Windows 11 on another PC?

'Select download now' if you are on some other PC. This will download a tool that will install a bootable version of the Windows 11 installation media and format a USB drive. The USB drive should be of at least 8GB of storage. Make sure that there is nothing important in the USB as it will erase anything on there. Then, insert the USB on the PC you want to install Windows 11 on and restart the device.

The PC may need a reboot. To do this, when the manufacturer logo comes on the screen, press F12 or F2 to get to the boot menu. Simply select whether you'd like to boot from USB or DVD once the boot-up menu pops up and press enter. From there, the Windows 11 installer should load up and be ready to install.

Perform a clean install of Windows 11 using an ISO

The steps listed above upgrade Windows 10 pc to Windows 11. Pick Windows 11 under 'Select edition'. Once the ISO is downloaded, users will need to make a bootable USB or DVD with it.

Windows 11 Price

Existing users can download Windows 11 for free. It will come pre-installed on the new PCs and laptops as well. It is hard to pinpoint what the cost of the product keys is. It could cost as much as Windows 10 licenses originally sold: Windows 10 Home costs £119.99/$139, and Windows 10 Pro sold for £219.99/$199.99.

So it is fair to assume that Windows 11 will be sold for the same price.

What's Next?

Windows 11 is set to be one of the best operating systems out there in the market. It has some unique features which make the deal even more attractive for the users. Make sure your PC is compatible with Windows 11 before installing the program. Future updates about the new windows will be listed on the official website of Microsoft.
