How to enable Discord push to talk?

Push to talk feature mainly ensure that everyone connected to a server can have clear talks such that when one user speaks the other are in mute mode. Unless one presses the push-to-talk button, no one can hear them.

This feature helps to cut out the background noises and efficient communication, which is very important for multiplayer gaming. To enable this feature to follow these steps:

  1. Open your Discord application and click on the ‘Settings’ option at the bottom of the panel.

Discord push to talk not working?

There might be several reasons for your Discord push to talk button not working so, let us check out different errors that are probably causing the trouble, and then you can follow the steps to fix it.

The issue in Voice Settings of Discord

If you are using Discord in an operating system like Windows then sometimes it might override the drivers and hence create problems in connecting with the Discord.

To solve this issue follow these steps:

  1. Open the ‘User settings’ after launching Discord on your device.
  2. Select the ‘Voice Settings’ option.
  3. Check whether your microphone is selected. If yes, then try re-selecting it and check whether it is working.
  4. For checking, click on the ‘Lets Check’ option under the same panel. Use your microphone to talk and check whether the Discord picks it up.
  5. You can also use a tab to remind you if Discord cannot detect your microphone. The tab is present at the bottom of the panel.

Update drivers

If you want to fix your voice issues then try updating the latest audio drivers on your desktop as some files might be missing hence causing trouble in using the push-to-talk button. Follow these steps for updating the drivers:

  • Open the Run Utility dialog box by using Windows + R keys.
  • Type ‘devmgmt.msc’, and press enter. This will open the Device Manager dialog box.
  • Click on the ‘Audio inputs and outputs’ and ‘Update drivers’ from the drop-down menu.
  • Use the ‘Search automatically for updated driver software’ as it will be easy to find out the driver required if any.

Check whether your microphone is selected as the primary mode of input or output in Discord. To ensure this, follow these steps:

  • Open the ‘User settings’ after launching Discord on your device.
  • Select the ‘Voice Settings’ option.
  • Check whether your 3.5mm jack or USB is plugged in properly and check whether the hardware is not kept mute.
  • Also, ensure that you have all the latest drivers updated on your device.

Using Discord push to talk in Administrator mode

If the push to talk not working on Discord and you are running your system as an Administrator then try these steps to fix the issue as it will not work until you configure the Discord to work in administrative mode also.

  • Right-click on the Discord application icon on your device.
