Dell has a reputation for manufacturing top-notch quality laptops. Whenever anyone thinks about getting a new laptop, Dell is one of the laptop companies they look into. One of their best runners is the Dell latitude laptops The Dell latitude laptops compete with the Thinkpad, Elite Book, and Tecra series by Lenovo, HP, and Toshiba respectively.

A few months back the company added a new member to the Dell Latitude series called Dell Latitude 7420. This business laptop has been released with some subtle improvements with each new generation. If you want a competent, durable laptop with excellent performance this one is for you.

Dell Latitude 7420

Dell Latitude 7420 box contains just the essential paper manuals and a 65 W USB Type – C Power Brick as Dell Latitude charger. The Latitude 7420 is available in two versions. One either as a business laptop or a 2-in-1 convertible version that offers more physical flexibility. 

That means you use this laptop as a dell latitude tablet and even as a business laptop as per your wish. Both the Dell Latitude tablet and laptop versions have similar configurations and are approximately of the same size and weight.

The two configurations are differentiated based on the material of use. One of them features an aluminum body, weighs 2.88 pounds (1.31 kg), and has a thickness of 16.9 to 18mm. The other one comes in carbon fiber and has a smooth soft finish. It weighs 2.69 pounds (1.22 kg) and the height is about 17.3 to 18.9 mm. In this article, we will be reviewing the latter one.

3. Carbon Fiber Styling 

The dell latitude business laptop with a carbon fiber finish and with a measure of 0.86 by 12.7 by 8.2 inches. This is one of the impressive features of the latitude 7420 when compared to the class-leading ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 by Lenovo.

While a display with a 4K resolution panel has become a common feature now. Dell Latitude 7420 currently does not offer a 4K display. It has a full HD resolution panel (1920 by 1080 pixels). It is available in either touch-enabled or non-touch versions. The brightness of the base panel has 250 nits.

5. 1080p Webcam

This laptop has a minuscule border on either side of the screen and the top and bottom have thicker borders. At the bottom of the screen, there is a silver Dell logo, and the camera is set at the top-center of the screen. The Latitude 7420 comes with various camera options. Such as a webcam with 1080p video at 30 fps or a common 720p resolution.

6. Features

One impressive aspect of the Latitude 7420 is its business-friendly feature, the extensive array of customization options. This feature makes the IT companies choose Dell over the Lenovo ThinkPad. The base model has specifications: a Core i5 CPU, 8 GB of memory, and 128 GB solid-state drive. 

All of its CPU options are from the latest 11th Generation and rely on Intel’s Iris Xe integrated graphics. You will get all this for $1,589. Even though Dell Latitude 7420 is pricier but they do make use of larger size and weight and provide an extra SD card slot. This is something that a ThinkPad lacks.

Dell Latitude 7420 is equipped with proximity sensors made by Dell. This sensor can detect when you approach the laptop and automatically logs you in using Windows Hello face recognition software.

The keyboard and touchpad are slight refinements of the approach that can be seen in the previous Dell Latitude laptops as well. The keyboard has an optional backlight. The keys and the touchpad mechanism are sturdy and well-engineered. The touchpad is slightly larger than the previous Latitude 7410. This gives those users more room to move their fingers if they have oversized fingers. 

The Latitude 7420 laptop supports Bluetooth 5.1 and standard wireless connectivity comprises an Intel Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 ax) chipset. It is also equipped with a built-in 2×2 MIMO support. This laptop also supports eSIM. That means if you opt for optional mobile broadband and your carrier supports eSIM as well you won’t require a physical slot to use it. Additionally, the Dell Latitude 7420 is equipped with an LTE version. This LTE version supports the dedicated, high-capacity FirstNet LTE bands.

7. Input/ Output: Dell’s 7420 Ports 

In terms of the input/ output of the system, there is one Thunderstorm 4 connector, audio jack, and an optional smart card reader. This system also has a wedge-shaped security slot, an HDMI 2.0 connector, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen 1) port. This is further followed by another Thunderbolt 4 connector, a MicroSD card slot, and an optional SIM card tray. Either of the Thunderbolt connectors can be used to charge the system using a Dell Latitude charger.

8. Basic audio

Like every electronic item, one drawback of this laptop is that for such an expensive laptop it only provides basic sound quality. With a mic integrated into the webcam assembly and dual stereo speakers, video conferencing, and voice calls will be clear.
